This video is about Top 10 Natural disasters after 1900 10. The 1991 Bangladesh cyclone was among the deadliest tropical cyclones on record. O the night of 29 April, 1991 a powerful tropical cyclone struck the Chittagong district of southeastern Bangladesh with winds of around 250 km/h (155 mph). The storm forced a 20ft storm surge inland over a wide area, killing at least 138,000 people and leaving as many as 10 million homeless. 9.The 1923 Great Kanto earthquake struck the Kanto plain on the Japanese main island of Honshu at 11:58 a.m JST on Saturday, September 1, 1923. This was the deadliest earthquake in Japanese history, and at the time was the most powerful earthquake ever recorded in the region. This earthquake devastated Tokyo, the port city of Yokohama, and the surrounding prefectures of China, Kanagawa, and, Shizuoka, and caused widespread damage throughout the Kanto region. The power was so great in Kamakura, 60 km (37mi) from the epicenter, it moved the Great Buddha statue, which weighs about 93 short tons, almost two feet. Estimated casualties totaled about 142,800 deaths, including 40,000 who went missing and were presumed dead. 8. The Yangtze river flood China, 1935. the Yangtze river, also called Chang Jiang, is the longest river in Asia and the third-longest in the world. Flooding along the river has been a major problem. The huge river system receives water from both southern and northern flanks, which causes its flood season to extend from May to August. Meanwhile, the relatively dense population and rich cities along the river make the floods more deadly and costly. One of the most disastrous cases was in 1935 when the river flooded killing 145,000 people. 7. 2010 Haiti earthquake catastrophic magnitude 7.0 earthquake. The earthquake occurred on Tuesday, 12 January, 2010 By 24 January, at least 52 aftershocks measuring 4.5 or greater had been recorded. Many countries responded to appeals for humanitarian aid, pledging funds and dispatching rescue. A death toll figure of 159,000 is provided in a 2010 University of Michigan study. 6. Typhoon Nina-contributed to the Banqiao Dam failure Typhoon Nina was the fourth-deadliest tropical cyclone on record, Heavy rainfall was recorded along the Banqiao Dam, where 64.2 inches of rain fell in a six hour span. The rain led to the collapse of the Banqiao Dam. In all, 62 dams failed during the disaster causing large temporary lakes and $1.2 billion in damage. Approximately 229,000 people died after the Banqiao Dam collapsed and devastated areas downstream. 5. The 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami. The 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake was an undersea megathrust earthquake that occurred on Sunday, 26 December, 2004. It is the third largest earthquake ever recorded on a seismograph. It caused the entire planet to vibrate as much as I centimeter (0.4 inches) and triggered other earthquakes as far away as Alaska. The earthquake also triggered a series of devastating tsunamis along the coast of most landmasses bordering the Indian Ocean, killing over 230,000 people in fourteen countries. 4. 1920 Haiyuan earthquake. It occurred on December 16, 1920 The earthquake was reportedly a 7.8 on the Richter magnitude scale, followed by a series of aftershocks for three years. According to the Catalog of Damaging Earthquakes in the World, there were 235,502 people killed. 3. Bhola Cyclone The 1970 Bhola cyclone was a devastating tropical cyclone that struck East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) and India's West Bengal on 11 November, 1970. It remains the deadliest tropical cyclone ever recorded, and one of the deadliest natural disasters in modern times. Thsi cyclone was the strongest of the 1970 North Indian Ocean cyclone season, reaching a strength equivalent to a strong category 3 hurricane. 2. 1976 Tangshan earthquake The Tangshan earthquake, also known as the Great Tangshan Earthquake, also known as the great Tangshan Earthquake, was a natural disaster that occurred on Wednesday, 28 July, 1976 It is believed to be the largest earthquake of the 20th century by death toll Chinese government official sources state a magnitude of 7.8 on the Richter magnitude scale, though some sources listed it as high as 8.2 The number of deaths reported by the Chinese government was 655,000. 1.The China Floods the 1931 Central China Floods were a series of floods that occurred in the Republic of China.
